Village of Buchanan
Buchanan is a village within the Town of Cortlandt. It is bordered by Peekskill to the north and east, Verplanck to the west and Montrose to the South.
Approximately 2,200 residents live within Buchanan’s one-and-one-half square mile area. Although Buchanan is one of the area’s smallest villages, it takes pride in having its own police and fire departments.
Buchanan is governed by a Mayor and the four members of the Village Board, who each serve a two year term.
Village Circle, just off of Route 9A near Monroe Park and Village Hall, is the town’s business center-although its major industry is the Entergy Nuclear Generating Station, located at Indian Point.
Buchanan’s recreation department offers a summer day camp and senior citizen’s services. A village pool (open daily, 12 to 7pm, from Memorial Day through Labor Day) is located on Westchester Avenue. Pool passes are required.
In addition to its own recreation department, Buchanan is also served by the Town of Cortlandt Recreation Department.
Popular recreational areas in Buchanan include Lent’s Cove, located on John Walsh Boulevard and Veterans Pavilion, located on Westchester Avenue. Special permits are required to use these facilities. Call the Recreation Department for details.
